Morning linkage
Nov. 12th, 2003 07:25 amA few random things before I head out the door:
The Onion nails all of our worst fears.
Time magazine has a cover database, where you can see who was on the cover the week you were born. For me, it was either "What it Means to be Jewish," or "Jack Anderson: Supersnoop (in the article entitled Washington: Affluence and Influence"
In sports, I actually don't think The Boss is totally wrong in his complaint about the Rookie of the Year Awards. Not that I really needed to see Matsui win, but Steinbrenner is right about the criteria. Of course, what's not mentioned is that given the number of Japanese pros who have won, the real problem with Ballou and Souhan is that they were likely anti-Yankee. Which is a great thing in sportswriting in general, but pretty damned unprofessional here.
And something I missed when I was away: Jamie Rich is leaving Oni. :-(
And finally, RIP for Batman's nemesis The Archer, also known as Ed Norton, or Art Carney.

Date: 2003-11-12 06:12 am (UTC)And, as Steinbrenner points out, it's not like Jackie Robinson (the first winner, and the namesake of the awards) was an inexperienced "rookie" when he first started (although he had a lot more to deal with, in terms of racism, than any contemporary player).

Date: 2003-11-12 08:15 am (UTC)It must have been a fine hat in its day; $5 was a princely sum in 1935.
What's in the Onion article? Apparently my company's nannyware blocks The Onion.
