Working from home today, because some fuckwit in the Dekalb School System (Motto: Administrated by Fuckwits!) thought it would be a good idea to start the school year on Tuesday. Because, naturally, why would parents HAVE FUCKING JOBS?

Grr.

And it's a busy time for both [livejournal.com profile] shadesong and me, Fortunately, I can get some stuff done from home, but I'd actually get more done if I were in the cube farm today. Stupid fucking short weeks.

At least I get unlimited coffee. And unlimited hugs from an eight-year-old. Both are good things.

Dude, you're complaining about not having to go into the office?!

[livejournal.com profile] yendi stays home on Elayna's days off because he can work from home and I cannot. And it's one week before classes start and I will have a flood of emergencies all day, all week.

And hey, give Miss Kid a hug for me, willya?

Hey, it's one more day with the munchkin. Can't beat that! Ours are off till Wednesday. Go figure. Its really prolly so the teachers can have a full break, too... and start their job on Monday -- gotta get grades and lesson plans ready for the next half of the year.

Britt didn't have school today either, but teachers had to report.

Luckily, her aftercare program is run by the Y, and they set up satellite care programs at various elementary schools for days like today, so for $10 I got to drop her off there for all day.

This program is actually the cheapest program she's ever been in. Most schools she's been in it's been about $2.50 an hour or so. This one is $39 flat for just after school, $29 flat for just before school, or $46 a week for both. And it seems really well run. The only time that pricing structure sucked was when I was temping and not working every day.

Hey, they did the same thing here. And I work in before/after school childcare at the elementary school (run by the Y), which means that on days off, we have all-day care going on. So my kidlets are out all day, and where am I? At University, because *our* school starts on a Monday. Unique concept. I had to scramble like hell to find a sub. Why the hell would they want to start on a Tuesday?

That seems to be a trend this year. My fiance's county starts back tomorrow, although he has to go in today to finish report cards. I work at a college, and we started today.

I also used to work aftercare, run by the city, but based in a school. And on days like today--school is out, but it's not a holiday--we'd have all day care. 'Cos we're nice like that. We at least realized parents worked.
