Got my Bookslut column (and a review) turned in. That's,um, so far past the deadline that I'm practically late writing my next column already.
I've noticed something about my reading habits this year (mentioned it to
shadesong this morning). I'm skewing a lot more towards nonfiction. Previously, my nf fix came via magazines, mainly The Week (for current stuff), and Smithsonian (which is really the best damned magazine you're not reading, unless you are). But I've read about ten books this year, and I think only one of 'em has been fiction (the Scott Nicholson one I reviewed for BS). I'm currently reading The Turk (borrowed from
photognome), a book about the famous (at the time) Eighteenth/Nineteenth Century chess-playing automaton. Damned enjoyable so far. But I've never been this off of fiction. Other than comics and graphic novels, I haven't even glanced at a work of fiction in over a week now. It's just weird.
Not bad, mind you. But I don't recall the last time I went through this long a period without picking up a new novel. And I may not touch another one until the new Brust arrives.
Edit: I forgot that I did read the final third or so of Michael Marshall Smith's More Tomorrow and Other Stories this year.
