I never watched any of the Ghostbusters cartoons, but after reading this piece by JMS (which I came across while advance researching my May Bookslut column), I need to see this script.
Thing is, other than B5, I'm not inherently a JMS fan (in fact, I think he's written some utter shite, including his current run on Spidey). So I won't track him down just because he's written something. It's got to be something good. :-)
Oh. I agree, Crusade and Legend of the Rangers were bad. I've not seen any of his other work, the only reason I remember He-Man, was because someone mentioned it on Usenet.
Will find u a link, but it was an incredibly silly episode. They went to a conference in Russia (Venkman of course falling for the guide). The necronomicon was stolen and GB's blamed. They find out who did it and save the day.
Best part: no rousing chants of "Cthulhu!Fnagh!" but high school cheers with occult tempo!
The Real Ghostbusters had a surprising number of really brilliant episodes. Definitely something I'd invest in to get on DVD. I only vaguely remembered this episode, but now, much later, having read Lovecraft, I wish I could see it again.
This was one of my favorite episodes. Odd how a lot of folks think that the Nec is real--might have something to do with the fact that some idiot out to make a buck printed the "real" one--we used to sell it in the "bullshit and crystals" section at Waldenbooks.
Yup. It's just amazing that folks have been that taken in. We're talking about something whose creation is still under bloody copyright, and they still think it's "real."
Well, then again, these are some of the fools that think that playing D&D is a mark of Satan worship, and that Harry Potter advocates the prctice of witchcraft.
Oh, and that Ozzy was actually sober and straight enough to somehow be responsible for some kid offing himself.
I did catch episode of TRGB, and I never saw the Cthulhu episode. I'm disappointed now, I'm a huge Lovecraft fan.
He should have challenged the studio to produce a copy of the Necronomicon, but I'm afraid they probably would've come back with the paperback copy sold in mainstream bookstores under the 'New Age' section. Probably would've thought it was serious to.
