1. [livejournal.com profile] redcrowstudio links to Gary Snyder reading his poem, "Why I Take Good Care of My Macintosh Computer."

2. The folks who run the Broadway In Atlanta program are talking about an off-Bway version, and Forbidden Broadway is one the shows they're considering (no link, but I filled out a survey for them the other day). *Adam Does the Happy Dance*

Gotta love lyrics like, "Rich folks paid $20 a shirt/That has a starving pauper on it." Their ten minutes of slamming Les Miz has had me breathless with laughter too many times.

(aside: At risk of blaspheming, a list of my top 100 musicals would not include Les Miz. Seriously).

3. The iTunes free song is "French Connection," by Simon Stinger. It's good. Damned good. They're a Bay Area New Wave band. Download the free single (link will only work if you have iTunes).

4. The morons at FHM -- you know, the assholes who set Brian Bendis up for an interview, then basically slammed him -- have declared that Mark "biggest hack this side of Chuck Austen" Millar's Wanted is the "comic read of the summer," ignoring legit reads like either of the "Identity" books (DC's Identity Crisis or Marvel's Identity Disk), a new Noble Causes, or any of the hundreds of books that are better (pretty much anything not written by Chuck Austen or Millar himself, including the entire Archie line of comics).

5. Last night's Gilmore Girls was damned good. Possibly the best one Daniel Palladino has written, actually. From the opening scene with the horse to the final couple of scenes with the Triangle, it was solid. Most surprisingly, I've enjoyed Jess's character. He's actually grown and changed (although not enough to realize that he also has to show Rory that he's grown, not just assume she knows it). As has Dean. Nice to see characters move forward. And the scene with the roomies saying their goodbyes was hysterical.

That said,

Does Yale really do Saturday exams? And why would the campus be empty -- wouldn't graduating seniors still be around?

6. I just discovered that The Continuing Story of Radar Love, by Golden Earring, is available on iTunes. Since GE was a classic 2-hit- wonder band, I just bought the two singles I needed. I'm happy.

7. I am in pain. When I went in for my physical on Monday, I walked (during midday) to the Emory Clinic from home. This means walking the entire length of Houston Mill Road. Which includes major hills. My legs reminded me yesterday about how stupid this was, after [livejournal.com profile] shadesong and I spent a good part of the evening assembling and filling boxes with books, DVDs, and games for the move.

On top of this, since I hadn't fasted on Monday, I had to go in early this morning for the lab work, so I had a needle poked in my arm. I do not like needles -- I'm a firm believer in the Dr. McCoy future, when someone can run a tricorder over you and fix all the problems up to and including liver failure. That said, the nurse did a good job of minimizing the pain. I suffered more when I pulled the taped-down cotton off, removing thirty of my favorite arm hairs in the process.

8. According to the IMDB, Bill Panzer and company are not done raping the Highlander mythos (that's mythos, not Methos, for those who read too much slash). We'll see Highlander: The Source (AKA, Highlander 5), in which, one can only assume, Methos meets Metron, and Orion/Lightray slashfic hits an all-time high.

9. [livejournal.com profile] dixie pointed out a while back that Abercrombie and Fitch has a free MP3 site. Some decent stuff there, surprisingly. Proof that even the most useless of clothing companies can actually serve a valuable function in society.

10. My Mets, after actually showing some promise, have lost two in a row to the DBacks. And that's before facing Randy Johnson. Sigh.

11. [livejournal.com profile] theferrett's post here is something that everyone should read.

12. So, what will a fake degree from a diploma mill get you? How about a job as Assistant Secretary of Defense?

Let's hear it for the Pentagon! Anyone else wonder if Mr. Abell knows how many sides it has?

I think, though I'm not 100% sure, Rory took a Saturday morning class. And graduating seniors would be around, but they would be at the bars that card, so they wouldn't have to put up with a bunch of underage losers with Saturday exams.

I just quietly chant myself to sleep every night with the mantra there can be only one, there can be only one, there can be only one...

There's like, seven, right?

Yes, they do give Saturday exams. The time of one's final exam isn't related to the time that particular class met, and there's the possibility of getting stuck with a Saturday exam.

And the campus would be largely empty -- most non-seniors bolt New Haven ASAP, and most seniors leave for various "senior week" vacation locales, to return when the ceremonies/festivities begin, a few days before Commencement.
