Yeah, I stayed up late to catch the finals of season three of Celebrity Poker Showdown on Tivo.
Pre-spoilers, this was the best match I've seen on the show. Only the finals of season one comes close.
This also had the best comraderie amongst the players. Gracious losers, good winners, and tight play overall. There wasn't one person I was rooting against. Compare that to season 2, where I would have been appalled if Hill or Dawson had won.
Also, am I the only person who would like to see David Cross replace Dave Foley? Foley's gotten better this season, but he still irks me on this show.
I had to feel bad about Cross's luck. He just drew nothing but shit for so long, and unlike his other games, he couldn't pull off the miracle comeback. But with four episodes under his belt, he's pretty much the Center Square of this show. And he's made a ton of money for his charity even without winning.
Harris (what's with the hats?) is probably the weakest poker player at the table (watching this week's Hollywood Home Game, which CSP had actually spoiled a couple of weeks back, reinforced that), but he still played solid, although he was way too tight when he was short stacked. Considering how badly he was nailed at the beginning, though, he held on nicely. And his crack about the Red Sox was priceless.
Jeff Gordon was really likable, much to my surprise. He was amazingly gracious in losing, and played a solid game overall.
Navarro is the other player who I grew to like a lot more this season that I expected to. He had an amazingly relaxed attitude, with none of the arrogance that all too many rockers have. As for his game, I thought it was going to be a blowout after the first two rounds, but then he settled down. He made some bad bets near the end, which cost him, but I really liked how aggressive he was in the early going. Of course, it helps to get cards like that. :-)
And Seth Meyers was just solid throughout. Phil made a damned accurate prediction, and it was a good one. For all his goofiness, he played tight in both of his games, and really pulled out the stops when it counted.
Overall, just a blast to watch. This game was every bit as solid as some of the WSOP episodes that have aired recently.

Date: 2004-08-13 08:18 am (UTC)I found that I enjoyed it a great deal.
I have to be very girly for a second and say one of my very favorite parts was when Navarro bent over the table, and there was a close of shot of his butt in the lower right of the screen. =P
Overall it was a good game. They seemed to actually be having fun...which is one thing I always like to see.

Do you know what impressed me about Navarro? His interest in Seth's charity at the end. Just a nice thing.
