Weird spam of the day
Aug. 17th, 2004 10:14 amSo, after an hour of network issues (still ongoing, so I'll be on and offline a lot today), I finally get to my email. And while cleaning out spam, I see two messages in a row from the same spammer, clearly one from the "use random first name and no subject line" school (not my favorite school of spammers, as I prefer the "use silly word combos to pretend the mail is from Incidentally. R. Shakespeare" school).
In order, they're
gwynraven's firstname and her lastname, in that order. I find that especially amusing since Gwyn is currently crashing on our couch as I write this (well, she might be awake by now).
So yeah, Gwyn,
ryokan,
enchant, and
dark_blade were all over last night, and we watched the Olympics (although
shadesong had to crash before she could see the deliberately tape-delayed events that NBC insists no child should be able to watch by hoarding them until Prime Time). Good stuff -- I saw what may be the best vault (from Romania) and one of the best high-bar routines (from Japan) I've ever seen. In spite of the hyperbole from the horrible announcers (hey, do all three scores count?), I did not see the "best pommel horse ever." In fact, I saw at least two other people last night do better. That said, it was fun. And the US men were just phenomenal on the floor exercises. A good night overall.
I also made a discovery -- do not get Bruster's Dusty Road ice cream in a shake. Because Dusty Road -- coffee ice cream with caramel and malt balls (mini-Whoppers) -- is wonderful, but malt balls don't always get crushed well. So you end up with the ice cream shake version of Bubble Tea, with Whoppers instead of Tapioca pearls.
Anyway, the network seems stable, so I can get back to the grind.

Date: 2004-08-17 10:54 am (UTC)The Phelps thing is silly -- no way was he going to get all the golds, and setting that expectation was silly. So was Hall whining like a little mutt about being left off the relay team.

Escalation
Date: 2004-08-17 08:16 am (UTC)Oh, and the highlight of the broadcast is seeing how bad the tie is going to be on the fellow who does the "olympic stories."
Great sports, great sportsmanship. Shoot the commentators.

Date: 2004-08-17 10:53 am (UTC)I've tried it a couple of times. It's not as bad as it sounds at first.
