Oh, he's not a venal fuckhead, but he was a pretty bad president. Mostly honest (and cutting a sweetheart deal to pardon Nixon was pretty much necessary for anyone to get the job), but too unqualified and generally incompetent (albeit not enough so to really endanger us) for me to really respect him as a president.
I do, however, respect him as a person, which puts him leagues ahead of Reagan and the Bush Bastiches.
Wow, in the right wing Union Leader no less. The hometown paper I don't read because it is usually too over the top Republican biased. I'd read it for the news but my wife would kill me, she dislikes is so. :)
It wasn't that long ago that Republicans ran for office in the spirit of public service. These days most of them see it as a business or proseltyzing opportunity
*nod* I grew up with Rockefeller as Veep, and worked on the congressional campaign of Bill green as a teen. I still fondly remember a time when the Republican party actually cared about Americans.
Great Op Ed article. Thanks for pointing this out, man. I wonder how many Republicans might find this an at least somewhat persuasive argument. Goodness knows that the debate has largely been closed for the current administration.
