As Miss Le Guin clearly intended to say, the books and film represent two sides of the same coin, as Kargs and Wizards, or believers and unbelievers.

Not surprised to hear that.

Has there been a good TV adaptation of a Sci Fi book?

Razors Roughnecks, a pretty darned good adaptation of Starship Troopers.

I didn't see a lot of it, but what I saw was pretty cool.

there's more info here. I might still be on the air.

Oh, I did see a couple of eps of that. Different title though.

It wasn't bad.

Yeah, ironically, I think it got somewhat unfaily panned by fans because it looked far too much like the starship troopers movie (which is not a coincidence, it's pretty obvious they used the same CGI bug designs for both.)

I missed it, but...

I've heard tell that there was a good adaptation of Martian Chronicles.

I liked the original adaptation, 1st eps, but the series as a whole didn't impress me.

Oooh, ouch. And to think I was looking forward to that. Hmm. May watch it anyway... but with a couple tablespoons more salt than originally anticipated.

Yeah, I agree. It looked really good in all the previews. However, i was vexing over the fact that I have a dinner party that night with my hsuband and wouldn't be able to watch it; now i wont' be so upset about missing it. It will be on again, I'm sure, and I'll catch it eventually.

I'm making a point of not re-reading the books. It's been years since I read them last, so I'm holding onto the hope that the miniseries will be a decent stand-alone if-you-ignore-its-origins type of thing. Sometimes 'inspired by' can be okay. LeGuin's annoyance at having herself 'quoted' is certainly justified, though!

Its a little fresher in my mind; I re-read the series about 18 months ago, before i knew they were making a movie out of it. :/

As you said, a little grain of salt while watching it will be good. i generally am not as critical of movies as most people are. I'll probably enjoy it either way. I'm easy to please. (grin)

*sigh* Well, I guess I'm still glad I don't watch TV then.

That's one of the most elegantly-put smackdowns I've seen in quite some time.
