First, I'm selling most of my old gaming books cheap (as in, make an offer, and it's likely to be accepted). Go to this post for more info (friends-locked, because I want my friends to get first dibs).

Ganked from many (but [livejournal.com profile] mactavish was the first to post that I saw): Be warned: Gay people often like to dine out! Shocking!

Got two nice surprises (contest wins, actually) in the mail in the last two days: The 2-disc special edition of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, one of my five favorite films of last year, and There and Back Again, Sean Astin's memoir of the LOTR filming experience. I'm a little intrigued by the latter, as Sean was one of the biggest putzes in Celebrity Poker Showdown history. Now I can see if that was an aberration.

So, because ESPN scheduled the premiere of their show Tilt right after a live sporting event (instead of a pre-taped show which isn't likely to run late), naturally, my Tivo only caught 50 minutes of it, so I didn't bother with it. Did anyone catch it? Should I try to catch a rerun?

Having read the Sean book, no, he's entirely true to form. Total putz.

Why, what did he do at Celebrity Poker?

How do you define "putz" in this context?

Note that the poster about dining out was made by an old, real-life friend of mine, who's not prone to hyperbole or knee-jerk reactions.

I enjoyed Tilt, but I'm a poker player and a Michael Madsen fan.

It was a pretty standard opening ep with lots of exposition and walk-ons by a few pros. Aside from The Matador (Madsen), there are three young turks and an older fellow who are in cahoots (they run table scams together) and each one has a reason in his/her past to be gunning for the big guy. There's also a small-town lawman out for him. Some of these characters are much more interesting than others.

I'm assuming this is a limited run series, and if so it should be entertaining to see how all of these subplots pan out. I'd say to give it a shot. It has potential.

Thank you!! I'm planning on having a great time. My co-workers threw me a helluva party today, and, like I told Shadesong, we're going to the circus tomorrow night. Aging has its advantages, I guess...
