How sad

If you'd told me, in 1998, that there would be at least four sci-fi movies in 2005 that I'd anticipate more than the third Star Wars prequel, I'd have told you to put down the crack pipe. But as it stands, I'm much more excited about The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, A Scanner Darkly, War of the Worlds, and Serenity. Oh, fuck it. I'm more excited about Doom, 3001, Aeon Flux, and the other War of the Worlds. Actually, only The Island falls below Episode 3 on my radar of interest, and that's only because Michael Bay is the one director I respect less than George Lucas at this point.

And that's not even counting all the non-sci-fi I'm looking forward to this year.

Probably the Latter.

I had to read this post three times to fully grok it and yeah, I do understand. Lucas is a hollow man plagarising himself at this point. Sometimes I can't believe he's even the same person that wrote Star Wars. It seems incomprehensible that he could miss his own point so completely. That, or millions of me did.

I saw the railer for A Scanner Darkly and, as interesting as I find it, I can't help but recall how violently motion-sick Waking Life made me, so I'm hesitant. Which pisses me off, lemme tell ya.

By the way -- if you get the chance, go see The Jacket. Just sayin'.

So...how creepy is it? Like, from a scale of 1 to The Ring?

Ehhh ... a three? It's atmospheric and smart and compelling, but not as creepy as you might expect. More Butterfly Effect than Jacob's Ladder, if you get my drift, but in the same general ballpark as both.

Thanks for making me google to figure out what you mean by other War of the Worlds, doesn't look to bad. And here's the link for anyone who reads the comments on this post:

Ah, thanks! I was just about to ask about that. Hmm. It looks more like video game cut scenes than a theatrical release. But I like that they're making an effort to make it "authentic."

If you had told me that in 1978 I might have had trouble with it. By 1998 I had pretty much adjusted to the idea.
