Don't think I'm happy that we have to wait three fucking weeks for the next new episode.



Ding, dong, the Boone is dead!

Now if they can just kill off Charlie (and maybe Shannon), I'll be out of folks I want to see die.

(And yes, I know a lot of you love Charlie in that "must write Mary Sue fanfic and have my character seduce him away from Claire" sort of way. But he's an asshole and a schmuck, and whatever sympathy I had for him vanished at the end of "Numbers.")

Oh, and I don't believe for a second that this is the last death, unless all of Abrams's comments about how a well-loved character was going to die were either lies, or signs that he smokes crack and thinks that people like Boone.

Killing off Boone does accomplish two diametrically opposed things, though: It shows us that no one is safe (not even a character who's gotten a flashback episode), and it creates a feeling of relief, with the thought that no other main character is likely to die. It's the latter feeling that I hope Abrams is exploiting.

Oh, and Boone took his experience in the plane to the grave with him -- no one else knows about his conversation over the radio.

Okay, maybe I'm off here, but I really don't hold numbers against him. It seemed like the writers were looking for someone to use to point out Hurley's "instability", so they used him. and they really did it in a ham-handed way. It just seemed really out of character for him, imho.

That's the interesting thing about an ensemble cast; without a clearly defined main character (and don't say Jack, because he was originally supposed to die in the first episode), everyone is both at risk and that much more special. Even Shannon. Bwahaha.

This occurred to me as I watched it. As I pointed out to my friend, just because one character on Lost was rumored to die doesn't mean that it's limited to one. That said, I don't think Locke is going to die.

Good episode, I thought. I was a little thrown by the whole wedding thing. She came out of nowhere! And now Sarah's going to be on thatJake show or whatever with Uncle Jesse next week! What gives?

I freely admit that I empathize more with Hurley than with anyone else. But Charlie's been a putz for a while now (and he started as one of the ones I was more sympathetic to). Doesn't help that he's one of the few characters whom I've liked less as a result of flashbacks.

Agreed on the wedding. I really thought he was going to leave her at the altar. Now, we know he's had (but presumably doesn't have, as there's no ring) a wife. Which means there's a lot more story about Jack that we still haven't gotten (and he's had more flashbacks than anyone).

See, he was until last night. And hell, to be fair, Boone might even have had an interesting story to tell (one of my concerns about his death, in fact, is that he seems like someone whose arc is finished, making the death less tragic -- wouldn't it be brutal to kill of Locke or Kate before finishing their backstories?).

Agreed - they built up Boone just enough to make him a major character, but without leaving any holes in terms of needed skills, critical relationships, etc. I mean, what did he ever do? Except be a foil for Locke, Shannon, and Sayid.

As for killing off someone who's not finished... let's remember, this is still network TV.

Not that he's the only critical member -- Paul Dini, Abrams, etc are all important. But I love the Mutant Enemy folks. When did this get announced?

Yeah, he's pretty much my favorite character... incidentally, I swear one of the commercials had a baby in it with Hurley doing the voice for it. Anyway, Hurley seems to be one of those characters who, because he's not all up in the place with his crazy, has a lot of room to do cool things. He's no Locke, but I get the feeling he could be one of those people to tip the balances, or something.

And yeah, Charlie's flashbacks generally make him out to be a smarmy, self-interested and weak person. But he's got just enough conscience to speak up when it's just about too late. In my opinion, Sawyer makes a much better self-interested jerk. His redemption (as it were) seems like it would mean more.

Now, we know he's had (but presumably doesn't have, as there's no ring) a wife.

Because she either dies a deathly death, or Jack decides that they're married for the wrong reason. Frankly, it seems like death is more likely. Because this is Lost. Also, it seems like this couldn't have happened too long before Jack went looking for his father.

Well, it could have been the guy who played Animal from Herman's Head, which is who I originally thought was playing Hurley. Then I remembered that that series is from about ten years ago. But yeah, maybe it's him. Their voices are quite similar.

I'm DEEPLY disappointed in Locke. Or what they made Locke look like.

And I admit, I cried during that last, incredibly manipulative, scene.

I missed last week, and the recap at TWOP made it sound like Boone's radio contact may have been simply feedback - are you of the opinion that he actually made contact with someone?

Don't trust TWOP. Locke did have reason to believe he was dooming Boone, but was clearly lying to himself more than a little bit about what would happen (if he didn't care, he'd never have brought Boone back to Jack, or shown the emotion he did).

As far as the radio stuff goes, ABC actually changed the clip on their website. It originally sounded like "there were no survivors of Oceanic 815," but the new clip sounds like, "no, we're the survivors" (which leads to the possibility of the tail section folks).

Re: Locke - where the hell did he go, then? To pray to the gods of the island, or the gods of the hatch? If Jack had known it was a crushing injury, rather than a simple break, the outcome could have been different - shit, even I know what compartment syndrome is (thank you, Discovery Health Channel).

But I adore Locke, so that's really why I'm upset.

Thanks for the info on the transmission. I'm extremely leery of any kind of spoilers, so I don't go to any of the websites -- I don't want to know anything other than what I see on Wednesday nights.

The original transmission WAS "There were no survivors of Oceanic flight 815." I had it TiVo'd and went back to it again the next day and listened to it -- and then hit the mute button and read the captions to make sure.

From the quick-edit preview at the end of the show, it looked like Locke gets shot -- and that would be very, very upsetting.

I love the show, and I do like most of the characters. But honestly, it would only upset me if Locke or Hurley got th ax.

Am I the only one who thought that Boone's soul ended up in the newborn? Maybe they'll to a close zoom on the baby at some point and have a Boone flashback story. :)
