Worst. Extra. Ever.
Jun. 13th, 2002 08:44 amSo, one thing we forgot to mention this weekend is that Elayna's grandpa bought her the Spongebob Squarepants DVD.
While we were in the store, we saw that one of the features was "Violent Femmes sing Spongebob."
So needless to say, we were psyched.
darkmattr and I checked it out, and his reaction summed it up best: They look like the parents of the Barenaked Ladies.
The video was also short, and not that good. They basically sang the song straight-up, with just some extra guitars. But we were just disappointed in their look. They look like middle-aged geeks. Which is what they are, of course, but it's just depressing. These were the people who sang so many nifty songs when I was growing up.
And the rest of the DVD was disappointing, too. All of the other extras are behind-the-scenes and making-of stuff. Seven-year-olds could care less about this stuff, and adults want more, too.
Now, the Powerpuff Girls DVDs are nice (the latest two, at least). They've got the behind-the-scenes stuff, of course. But they also load it with various short bits (like the Mojo Jojo Who Wants to Be a Millionaire sketch), audio commentary by the characters (Mojo and the Mayor), and all sorts of other extras that are actually fun, including good music videos (Shonen Knife's "Buttercup" was one of 'em). Nick needs a lesson from Cartoon Network.
