So, [livejournal.com profile] shadesong was wiped, and went to bed at about ten. I stayed up watching VH1 Classic, and attempted to go to bed at a bit after eleven. But 'song had somehow managed to fill up the entire queen-sized bed. This is a woman who is small enough to fit on a kid-sized mattress and roll over a couple of times, but she somehow manages to take up a whole bed.

I attempted to nudge her, but she was dead asleep, and I didn't want to nudge her enough to wake her. So I figured I'd sleep in Elayna's room, since that bed was free.

I got in, set the alarm, and attempted to crash. But there was a problem. You see, since Elayna's been gone, Max has been sleeping on her bed (he misses her). So about five minutes after I turned off the light, I heard Max's collar jingling, and then a pathetic *meow* from outside the door. It continued for ten minutes, at which point I gave up, opened the door, and read for an hour with Max curled up with me.

At a bit after midnight, I attempted sleep again ('song had turned over slightly by this point, allowing me enough room to crawl into the bed on my side). But even though I was totally fucking exhausted, I couldn't actually fall asleep. At a quarter of one, I gave up, went back to the living room, and finished reading Talking to Dragons.

At 2:15, I was finally tired enough to crawl back into bed. I had to shove 'song slightly over, but was able to make it in without waking her, and then crashed hard until the alarm clock woke me at 5:30 and I shot out of bed.

I then woke 'song at a bit after six, and as usual, on eight hours of sleep, she still took twenty minutes of prodding and shaking to fully wake up. :-)

The sunburn is healing nicely. It's now no more red that it might be if I had a slight rash, and it only really hurts on the joints of the shoulders themselves. A huge improvement, even over yesterday. Hooray for Aloe Vera lotion!

So, just two days after [livejournal.com profile] technomom mentioned the Liaden books (which I'd never heard of), they got brought up again on the Dragaera listserv. I suspect I'm going to have to hunt them down. Although I'm inclined to try to find the originals, as Meisha Merlin is likely to render them unreadable.

This bites -- according to http://www.comicon.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=32&t=000171 , Bill Messner-Loebs is on the verge of homelessness. He's a damned talented writer and artist, and it was his run on the Flash that made Wally West interesting again, back before the vastly overrated Mark Waid ran (sorry) the title into the creative ground. And his (and Sam Keith's) Epicurious the Sage is still one of the funniest things ever written, period.

Frankly, it really sucks, and says something about the comics industry, that a writer as talented as Messner-Loebs is out of work, and hacks like Fabien Nicieza, Ron Marz, and (let's face it) Grant Morrison have good books tossed in their laps to ruin.

Which Alan Rickman Character Are You?

:-) I was trying to explain the thrill of Die Hard to [livejournal.com profile] shadesong this morning, but she still isn't interested in seeing it, even though she loves AR. She's never even heard the line, "Now I have a machine gun. Ho, Ho, Ho."

*sigh* I'm in love with a woman who really needs to watch more movies.

Dude. It's Flag Day, and no one even reminded me! I coulda celebrated or something. Maybe claimed it as a holiday at work. Or asked for gifts from everybody. I mean, it's about six months away from Generic Winter Gift-Giving Time. So I want Flag Day Gifts! And I wanna go into the store tomorrow and be able to buy Belated Flag Day cards for all the folks I owe cards to.

Wow. I'd forgotten just how amazing they were. So much more than just "Dream Police" and "The Flame"

Donna's here!

[livejournal.com profile] shadesong met [livejournal.com profile] dlscanlon at the hotel, after getting slightly lost. Not surprisingly, she was exactly what we expected, and was delighful. She feels like someone we've known for all our lives

We went back to our area, ate at Chili's, then forced her to go to Bruster's, where she got chocolate raspberry truffle ice cream, 'song had her usual, and I had Dusty Road, which was vanilla malt ice cream with caramel and chocolate malt balls. Donna now believes us about how good they are.

We then came back here and chatted for hours, and then dropped her off at the station so she could head back to the hotel. It sounds boring as hell on screen, but it was just hours and hours of conversation with someone who is just a lot of fun. We're planning on getting together again tomorrow, and eventually convincing her to just move the family from PA to Atlanta. :-)

Anyway, I'm exhausted, so I'll attempt to wade through a few LJ comments, then head off to bed. :-)

Tara news!
