And yeah, I know that's if it held up to logic, it wouldn't be faith.

(aside: anyone else watch the latest Justice League cartoon? It took an interesting look at faith amidst a Lovecraftian storyline. Great episode).

Gilmore Girls: So, did Amy Sherman-Palladino go to Yale? Just wondering. Her obsession with The Game is something that only someone who went to one of the Big Two could possible have, and I can't imagine anyone from Harvard writing that episode.

The "twist" ending, however, would have been more of a twist if A) it wasn't a plotline that EVERY SINGLE SHOW THAT"S EVER BEEN SET AT A COLLEGE HAS DONE, and B) the WB hadn't spoiled it in the plot descriptions for the episode.

Angel: spoilers )

Smallville: spoilers, although this show sucks too much to really be spoilable )

I've already given my thoughts on this week's Justice League, but I've just got to say that good as Dwayne McDuffie was when he wrote comics, he's leagues better (sorry) when he's writing teleplays.

Books!

I've mentioned the free book stack at the Library before, and how nifty it is. Between donated books that the Library can't use, books that folks just bring in, and other stuff, I've found some great stuff (I also throw the occasional book I can't use onto the shelf, of course).

Today, I found two nifty ones.

First, a copy of The I Ching Workbook just about brand new, aside from an inscription on the title page. No, I'm not a believer, but I love expanding my mythology shelf.

But that was nothing compared to the other find. I snagged a near-perfect copy of Jane's Fighting Ships 1990-91. Yeah, it's twelve years out of date. It's still a great reference. Current editions of Jane's books go for over $500. I don't know if I'll ever write anything that will use this as a reference, but it's great reference book to have, Just In Case.

Can any of the myriad Chicago-based folks reading this possibly snag me the latest (or maybe the next-to-latest) copy of the Chicago Reader? I hear that there's a cover story on Bookslut, and I'd like to read it (but the Reader doesn't have it on their website). I'll gladly paypal for postage and whatever the cost of the Reader is, of course.

A few months, back, I posted the lyrics to the Teen Titans theme song (from Puffy AmiYumi's album Nice. I finally found the Japanese lyrics while searching the web. No idea how to transliterate, and I'll bet good money it doesn't translate straight to the English lyrics, either.

edit: That seems to show up better on some browsers than on others. Apologies if it's gibberish to you. Then again, it's pretty meaningless to me on any browser. :-)
