"The words "I fought corruption" should never pass the lips of a charter member of the Keating Five."

That'd be from Megan McArdle, btw, the token right-of-center blog in my Google Reader subscription list.

McCain never gets the props he deserves for managing to be the only Republican in what could have otherwise been a nasty Democratic Party scandal. Hey, he crosses party lines!

Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend," the video that argues that guys should date bullies instead of smart girls, and that skanky high-school bathrooms are the place for sex, has surpassed Judson Laipply's The Evolution of Dance as the most-viewed Youtube video.

Here's why and how it happened.

Of course, Laipply doesn't have a multi-million-dollar marketing campaign behind his video. Or a huge viral-marketing campaign going on. So he's still got much to be proud of (and as for me, I've watched "Girlfriend" once, and "The Evolution of Dance" about thirty times).

Maybe if he wears fishnets in his next video, he'll knock Avril out of the top spot.

Yup, those Obamas are sure "uppity."

The last census has the GA 3rd District at 40% black. Wonder how many of them are "uppity."

Amazon's renamed the awful-sounding "unbox" to "Amazon Video," and they're offering streaming episodes of a bunch of TV shows for free (including Heroes, 30 Rock, Bones, and The Riches). They still offer movie rentals, Tivo downloads, etc.

The Friday Five Albums for $5 Each includes Mitch Hedberg's Strategic Grill Locations, Wire's Pink Flag (which everyone should own), Steve Miller Band's Greatest Hits (ditto), Lil Wayne's Tha Carter III, and Ingrid Michaelson's Girls and Boys.

The MP3 Deal of the Day is Radiohead's OK Computer (the group and album everyone but me seems to love) for $1.99. Good deal if you can stand them, I guess.

Finally, for those wanting a full list of free MP3s at Amazon, here it is.

From FalloutBoy and Friends.

Cobra Starship's reinterpretation of Katy Perry's suckfest alone is worth the download process (which is a pain, as it involves Flash, forms, and emailed download codes). It's not even close to worksafe, though.

No time for a full linkdump, but here are five things to read:

1. Wonder what a community organizer really does (as opposed to the horseshit line that Palin tossed out)? Here are some answers. As always, ML is as worth reading for the comment threads as for the posts themselves. Read the whole thing.

2. [livejournal.com profile] james_nicoll has a list of current SF tropes and fuck-ups that annoy him.

3. Lauren Winner on why the Christian argument to sit out elections is not the way to go.

4. The founder of Cinemart talks about how he got into, and out of, the business of bootlegging.

5. Jo Walton (who'd likely get my vote for Fan Writer if I were willing to shell out Worldcon money; her writing for Tor's site has been wonderful) has a great column on Brust's Vlad Taltos books.

Boosting the signal here, since I've got a bunch of NYC readers on my list.
