Pratchett and Baxter: The obvious collaboration

Stephen Baxter will finish Terry Pratchett's unfinished science fiction novel.

I can only assume that this will be both the funniest and most depressing thing ever written, offering boundless optimism and absolutely no hope whatsoever for humanity.

I'm on the record as one of the few people -- and almost certainly the only horror fan -- who thinks that Shaun of the Dead is a howlingly overrated mediocrity saved only by a few amusing performances. So "directed by Edgar Wright" is certainly not a phrase that automatically inspires confidence in me.

That said, the latest trailer for Scott Pilgrim vs the World looks to be about as perfect an adaptation of the graphic novels as I could imagine. I still expect it to flop -- quirky doesn't play well, and August hits are still the exception and not the rule -- but at least I'll likely enjoy it.:
