So, just two days after technomom mentioned the Liaden books (which I'd never heard of), they got brought up again on the Dragaera listserv. I suspect I'm going to have to hunt them down. Although I'm inclined to try to find the originals, as Meisha Merlin is likely to render them unreadable.

I am of the opinion that it's their location that is causing them to go out of business. It's a wierd neighborhood, and there's not much in the way of retail establishments to draw walk-ins. They need to find a strip mall in the subs or something to get better business. People aren't going to go out of their way to find them enough to keep them in business, and they aren't open when the shiny gothy people are heading over to the chamber. They really aren't open when the horny people are heading to velvet heavan. I guess they might maybe get a walk in from the doggy people going to barking hounds. I don't know anything else in the neighborhood.

There used to at least be that Titan next door, which kind of created a feedback loop for me to spend money in, but now, with nothing really around, it's definitely hurting them. And they know it -- when they had the huge financial crisis last year, they pretty much acknowledged the location issue in one of their emails. A mall location, or at least something near a mall, would be so much better for them.
