As usual, our monthly Westfield order (and I can't rave enough about how much I enjoy using them), with additional comments thrown in:

Aquaman 1 -- This is the new Rick Veitch version. It's coming off a storyline in the medicre JLA, but Ri ck (unlike Tom) Veitch is capable of great things.
Birds of Prey 50 -- This is the first issue written by Gilbert Hernandez. The idea of Beto writing this book just cracks me up.
Dexter's Laboratory 33 -- For the kidling, of course.
Green Arrow 20 -- I've really enjoyed Brad Meltzer's first two issues, especially as a Starman fan (he's been using Shade, and the most recent issue has a surprise appearance by someone else from the series).
Looney Tunes 97 -- For the kid.
Powerpuff Girls 33 --Ditto.
Supergirl 77 For us. Peter David rocks. And this looks to be an interesting storyline, with the Silver Age supergirl playing a role in things.
Young Justice 52
Codename: Knockout 19
Fables 8
Hellblazer Special: Lady Constantine 1 -- Yeah, it may suck, but it's a character that I've enjoyed for a while.
War Story: J for Jenny -- Garth Ennis seems to be placing his quality eggs in the war basket, writing great stuff for this series, and utter crap for Marvel and Black Bull.
Global Frequency 3
Mek 2
Amazing Spider-Man 48
Captain Marvel 4
Daredevil 40
Exiles 20
Fantastic Four 64
Incredible Hulk 48
Mekanix 3 -- Having read the first issue, I'm actually impressed. Guess Claremont does have a good story left in him, after all. Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] astrophysicat -- they've made Kitty Pryde into an astrophysics student!
Peter Parker, Spider-Man 51
Ultimate Spider-Man 32
Ultimate Spider-Man 33
X-Statix 6
Alias 17
Grendel: Red, White & Black 4
Usagi Yojimb o: Shrouded Moon (tpb)
Noble Causes: Family Secrets (Oeming cover) 2
Powers 27 -- This series continues to get better each month. It may be my favorite read right now.
Rex Mundi 1 -- The prequel was damned interesting. [livejournal.com profile] morenasangre -- I think you'd like this one! Ditto any Tim Powers fan.
Tom Judge: End of Days 1 -- Paul Jenkins. Always worth a look.
Total Sell Out (tpb) -- Early Bendis, back before he had people to spellcheck him.
Strangers in Paradise: Bathing Beauty Katchoo statue -- yeep. This was $50 of our order. We could only afford it because of a slow month otherwise, and the $20 in credit we had with them.
Gloom Cookie: Monster's Christmas
Futurama / Simpsons: Special Crossover #2 -- about damned time.
Colo nia 8
Dork Tower 22
PvP 8
Mavis 4
Luba's Comics and Stories 3
Courtney Crumrin & the Coven of Mysti cs #1 -- the first series (see below) was a blast.
Courtney Crumrin & the Night Things
Jason & the Argobots 4
Kodocha Vol. 5: Sana's Stage (tpb) -- All [livejournal.com profile] shadesong.
Shonen Jump Vol. 1 2 -- may suck, may be great. More likely, as with Animerica Extra and other anthologies, it'll probably be a mix. But the price is good, at least.
Wizard (G.I. Joe/Transformers cover) -- Yeah, that was the least sucky of the cover options. Wizard is also an all-[livejournal.com profile] shadesong thing. I think it's crap on a stick, minus the stick.
Cherry Prime 1 -- Classic Cherry Poptart!
Small Favors Vol. 1 (tpb) -- An adult comic; [livejournal.com profile] shadesong and I both liked the one issue we read.
Exiles (tpb) -- Since our previous supplier still hasn't gotten it to us, we've given up and ordered it again.
Revolutionary Girl Utena Vol. 2
Ultimate Daredevil & Elektra Set (#2 & 3)

That's the run for the month. We passed on a few things that were tempting (the Brave and the Bold special, the next Dork Tower collection, etc). Anyone see anything else that's a must-have??

I guess you don't read Jim Balent's Tarot. Batgirl's really good. Harley Quinn was great, up until a couple issues ago. Gotham Girls is pretty good. You're not reading Transformers?? hmm...gotta get Cherry Prime. I also need to subscribe to Genus.

I was a really big Transformers fan. I know you probably won't care, but the new Transformers comic is absolutely incredible. The art is breathtaking and the story intriguing.

I don't like the Batman books, but I love reading about Robin and Batgirl and Oracle. Batman himself is too gritty for my tastes, but to see these other people trying to live up to the Legend of the Bat and not quite making it really interests me.

ok--need some publishers, if you please!

Fables
Rex Mundi
Supergirl (DC?)
Powers

Those all sound interesting. I'm getting more interested in reading comics again. Gloomcookie is one that I picked up on a suggestion, and I really enjoy it!

Still looking for League of Extraordinary Gentlemen--is that a tpb or a series?

I've been slowly sorting through the half of my comics collection that's down with me here and re-reading the good stuff. As a part of that I've just read through the first League of Extraordinary Gentlemen series and the first 20 issues of Powers and they've both been really good experiences. Its been just long enough since last reading that they'd faded from the memory just enough.

I've also been reading over what Usagi Yojimbo issues I've got. I seriously need to get the remaining TPs once I can put the money together.

Perhaps it's time to go home for one of the big Comics Fairs...

Picked up League Vol 2 #3, Powers (the start of the arc) and Gloomcookie 10. I may make Jim Hanley's a biweekly stop for me... hmmmmm

Well, it's not monthly, so I can't tell from your list… have you been reading Phil Foglio's "Girl Genius"? Or do you read his work in general?

D'oh, didn't even think to check your interests list. I frequently forget that's there.

I think my collection's reasonably complete too, though it was mostly accumulated over the past couple of years. Fortunately, our local science fiction bookstore owner makes much of the fact that he's a friend of hers, and stocks a large supply of back issues of his stuff – I was able to get full runs of the last "Buck Godot" series for myself and a friend that way, f'rinstance.

Are you enjoying "Girl Genius"? It took me a while to get into it, but I think it's picked up, and now I'm finding the slow pacing (and the possibility that he'll once again drop the project for many months at a time) a bit frustrating.

I normally don't buy individual comics; all the titles I read (Bone, Cerebus, Strangers In Paradise, Poison Elves, etc.) come out in graphic novel form eventually, and I prefer to have books that will go on my shelves than comics which will go into a box in a closet and be forgotten. I'm making an exception with "Girl Genius" because when it started, I thought, "Who knows when or if there'll be a book?" If I'd been aware of Buck Godot when it was first coming out, the process of waiting for a complete project would have driven me nuts, because every break in the release schedule would have convinced me that I'd guessed wrong and there was never going to be a complete product, and I'd missed out on seven issues worth of Phil Foglio while waiting until there was an eighth.

Now I'm tempted to pick up the book and give my issues to someone else who needs to be addicted to Phil Foglio.
