So,
shadesong just went out for a walk, and took with her the new Tom Waits CD that
murnkay got her. She'd never heard Waits, in spite of hearing all sorts of good things about him from me and
murnkay and others. Five m inutes later, she returned, saying, "never mind, this sucks."
Sigh.
Some people don't appreciate genius.
I suggested she listen to some Leonard Cohen instead, and she got a horrified expression on her face and said, "Dear god, no!"
Feh.
I'll listen t o the good stuff, and she can live in ignorance of the geniuses.µ∫

Date: 2002-12-21 04:25 pm (UTC)99% of the time I can cope when someone doesn't like things I do. Different tastes are GOOD, they show me new things. I enjoy it and like being told that something I like isn't good "because".
But Waits? He's a Diety out there man. It's like saying HST can't write worth a damn. Well ... at least you can enjoy the CD then :)
I'll get over this ... but ... Wow. hehehe

:-) Yeah, I'm kinda looking at this as a win -- any time a Tom Waits CD makes its way into my house, that's a good thing.

Date: 2002-12-22 11:46 am (UTC)"Rain Dogs"
"Hang On, St. Christopher"
"Earth Died Screaming"
"Romeo Is Bleeding"
"Whistling Past the Graveyard"
"Blue Valentines"
"Filipino Box Spring Hog"
"Black Market Baby"
"Black Wings"
"I'm Still Here"
"Fish & Bird"
"Time" (which was covered by Tori)
I'm willing to say that Tom Waits is a difficult artist at times; some of his stuff can be downright inaccessible. But he's, to me, the definition of wild primal beauty. I'd recommend giving him another listen; I don't know what album Murnkay gave you, but try "Rain Dogs" if you can borrow a copy from someone.
