There are only so many ways to say "this book sucks donkey ass."

To take Dorothy Parker's comments to the next logical level, This is not a book that should be tossed aside with great force, it should be held onto and used to bludgeon Laurell K. Hamilton to a bloody pulp.

Gah.

I am filled with a loathing for LKH that I normally reserve for members of the Bush administration, telephone salesmen, and and Courtney Love.

All I can think of at this point is Tom Volpe's criticism of Harold Robbins: "He is able to turn an unplotted, unworkable manuscript into an unplotted and unworkable manuscript with a lot of sex."

See personally, any review that is just that angry I ignore. If it is that bad that all you can do is scream at it and rip it to shreds liek that - don't review it. I dunno, maybe that's me.

I find that a well-written negative review can be almost transcendent in its lucidity and unabashed honesty.

Pour it on!

(You should have seen what I wrote regarding Clan Novel: Noseferatu. I finally called the 'zine and said "Let me review something else. No matter what I do, I can't get the curse words out of this article...")

Can I say it, huh huh, can I can I?

Guess I can't cause I haven't personally read the book.

But um, told you I heard so?

LKH's deal with the Devil ran out three books ago and now she is being forced to put out swill as part of her early acceptance to Hell. And she is trying to make us come along for the ride. I say she goes along in her basket without me. Or my 6 bucks.

That would be my review.

Ah, and here was me hoping Narcissus in Chains was her low point. Alas, it seems not.

I guess I'll have to find a new guilty pleasure...one that's still a pleasure. Heh.

Bummer.

I got it as a birthday present, in hardback even, so I will read it. I will be prepared to hate it, think it's crap, and not even like the sex if it's overly re-written sex we've seen her write better three books ago.

Better luck next time? (I'm guessing there will be a next time, unless she dies for good at the end, which hasn't been spoiled anywhere I've read...)
