Wow. The original estimate this morning was that Spidey 2's opening day was about $38 million, not the single-day record held by the original Spidey, but enough to beat the record for a Wednesday opener held by RotK.

When the final numbers came out, it had made $40.4 million, half a mil more than Spidey 1 had made on its opening Friday.

Holy shit.

After seeing it last night I am *NOT* surprised. I look forward to seeing it again and maybe a third time in the theater.

I can hardly think of how they can beat up poor Mr. Parker any worse for the third film--and why hasn't anyone bothered to inform him that, while he's so busy trying to hide his loved ones from "enemies"--they've damn near been killed anyway? Maybe, if he took a more "these is MY bitches" attitude, poor Aunt May wouldn't have to hang from umbrellas nearly so much.

I hope MJ does the sensible thing and wets his bed from nightmares about being dropped from high places.

I suspect the large number of useless films out this summer may be a reason for the reaction to the Spiderman Sequel... that and a fan build up from folks that didn't see the original in the theatre but did see it on dvd etc.

Since the 3rd LOTR film the only one I've seen in the theatre this year was Michael Moore's. The high cost of movies makes me cautious in regards to what I want to see in the theatre.

Sounds like this one will be worth seeing first run instead of waiting for it to go to DVD.

Amazing what happens when you put together a summer blockbuster actioner that has not only killer action scenes, but a good script and interesting characters too.
