ABC execs are assholes. They not only scheduled Lost to run an extra minute (which would Tivo-bust anything I wanted to watch at 9, not that there was any such beast), but actually had the show run longer than scheduled, so we missed what I hope was only a few seconds of dialogue. So, for anyone who has seen the episode, a minor request:

Could you please tell me what happened between Locke and Boone during their final conversation, after Boone realized that he'd been drugged? Thanks muchly.

Was a good TV night last night. Caught Tuesday's Veronica Mars (featuring whatsername from Cupid as a recurring guest star, and lots of really juicy revelations), last night's Lost, and the pilot episode of Popular, a show I'd missed when it first came out. I'm already kicking myself for not watching it the first time, and wanting to kick WB execs for canceling it.

Alas, [livejournal.com profile] shadesong has taken ill this morning. :-(

I just found out that one co-worker has somehow finagled training for three days next week. Yes, the first fucking week of the semester. Three days at short staff. Motherfucker. No way that should have been approved. And yes, it's the peter-principle person I've griped about before. Incompetent or not, we need the warm bodies around to handle the gruntwork. I'm just plain livid right now.

In better news, the latest Onion has a special MLK day issue (mostly reprints, but funny stuff).

And even better, Hugh Laurie as Perry White in the Superman movie! Woohoo!

Looks like the Spanish voice talent for The Simpsons have similar issues to the English-speaking folks.

Oh, folks? You can be immature at 20. But you're not just a kid. So Prince Harry dressing as a Nazi? The actions of an adult. That means he knew damned well what the uniform represented, and deserves whatever fallout he gets, and more.

Work has made this post take two hours to compose already, so I guess I'll just go ahead and post it.

Locke told him that now he could let go and then he stood up and told Boone to follow him.

Boone realizes he'd been drugged. Locke had no idea what he'd seen Boone gets all up in Locke's face, repeating that Shannon died, his siter died, she died in his arms... oh, and she died.

Locke asks, "How did you feel?" Boone takes a few seconds and responds that he felt relieved. Locke tells Boone it's time to let go, to come follow him, picks up his pack, and walks off.

The camera flashes between Boone's hardened expression and shots of Shannon and Sayid making nice and laughing. Boone takes off.

Crazy! SO CRAZY!

Though I think I'd go on a rampage if the episode had been cut off there for me. Heh.

If he'd gone in the same costume minus the armband and said he was was Rommel, I don't think they'd have been any fuss. Armband, fuss.

The girl from Cupid, Paula Marshal. I was hoping her character would continue to date Veronica's dad. That way they would keep her for next season. *prays there will be many more seasons of Veronica Mars*

The only thing that scares me about Paula Marshal in the cast is this: she has been in six tv shows that got cancelled in their first season. I hope she isn't an albatross around Veronica Mars' neck!

As already shared here, Boone said he felt relieved and Locke told him it was time to let go. But the thing is, that last *look* Boone gave Sayid and Stepsister Load Chick was deeply ambiguous ... I turned to Pat and said, "So is he going to ignore her now or KILL her?" Yikes.

Yes, ABC execs are assweasels. I had "Lost" set on TiVo to run three minutes long, then I decided I wanted to TiVo "Alias," too, since I've decided to try watching it for awhile. So I had to reset "Lost" to end on time ... fortunately, since they're both on the same station, the end of that scene (and the "next week on") were recorded at the beginning of the "Alias" recording, so I could just jump over.

When in doubt, I always set TiVo to start a minute early and run a couple of minutes late ... assuming that doesn;t cause it tom conflict with something else.

Also, re: "Lost" -- I think it came after the break ... Locke said to Boone, quite eagerly, "What did it show you?" and then Boone told him his sister had been killed.

God, I love Locke's character. He's either going to be their savior or he's gonna end up trying to kill them all. It's impossible at this point to know which.

Did you see him with the knife? Evidently he learned very well from Locke. Dang. So he's got his stepfather's luck (backgammon), all the knife throwing skill in the world...

Come to think of it, Locke taught him to play backgammon.

Fascinating.

And Hurley's an awesome character. I know it sounds dumb, but I've been waiting for a Hurley flashback episode for a long while.

You know, I hadn't even considered expanding the naming conventions beyond Rousseau and Locke.

Though who's Shepherd? And Sawyer isn't a philosopher. Hm.

Perhaps Tom Sawyer. Tom is a plotter; he gets everyone else to paint the fence for him. And in Huck Finn, he displays a lot of imagination. Also, Tom lies about who he is in Huck Finn--he pretends to be his cousin, IIRC (because Huck is pretending to be Tom). The difference is Tom does what he does out of a sense of fun, of adventure. Innocently.

Yeah, I can definitely see those similarities between the two characters. I was just thinking that it was odd that we had two contemporary philosophers being referenced, and then we were going to a reference to a fictional character. Hm.

This episode of Lost has been scheduled to run three minutes long for some time now, but Zap2It and the other sites that feed Tivo the data didn't note this fact 'til sometime yesterday, I think.

What blows me away is the quote, "If I were Jewish, I might be a bit upset..."

Yeah, lady, I'm glad that us unreasonable Jews are allowed to be upset. But no one else should be.

This reminds of one time when [livejournal.com profile] slipjig and I were hanging out with this girl who clearly was a few fries short of a Happy Meal. She was going on and on about how much she disliked Jewish people. I simply smiled and nodded. Adam eventually took her away and informed her that I was Jewish.

"But I didn't know you were Jewish! I'm so sorry! You don't look Jewish!"

Hmmm, yeah, and that's going to help you. Bzzzt, wrong.

If Harry were 13 or 14, okay, we can say "youthful stupidity." But he's had an education at one of the best schools in the English-speaking world and he's 20. That's a man, not a boy. He should know better. I think he's inherited his father's lack of intelligence.

(At least Wills has his mother and grandmother's good sense.)

So now Liz is thinking, "I can't give it to the boy. Now it starts to look like I can't give it to the Grandkids, either! What did I do to deserve this family?!"

On the other hand, the whole family is just a few generations out of Germany themselves; maybe the lad felt homesick?
