[A guy reading The Da Vinci Code] is going to be awful in bed. This is just one step up from a sci-fi reader, someone who thinks sex can't measure up to masturbation.

Before you get too angry, remember two things: First, the guy's an editorial assistant at Nerve, which is the literary job equivalent of shoveling the shit out of the elephant cage, but without the dignity (and it smells worse -- we're talking being around Nerve employees all day). Second, he looks like this.

In other words, his life truly sucks. Pity him.

Or snark away. Whichever. :-)

But he's probably right about The DaVinci Code. Even though guys who read Cryptonomicon seem to generally be EXCELLENT in bed.

I've read both and never had any complaints :)

But please tell me you understand which one is better and why!

I'm going to stick with Cryptonomicon on that one. I found it to be overall a superior work on all levels, plot, characters, storytelling, history, etc.

But then, Eco's Foucault's Pendulum spoiled me for any one else writing about the Grail. Or any of dozens of other topics as well :)

You have chosen wisely.

And yes, I also enjoyed Foucault's Pendulum but Cryptonomicon felt like it kind of moved a little faster. Which is odd for a book with pages in the four digits...

Quite true, quite true. There were a lot of places Foucault's didn't actually move at all. It is the single densest novel I've ever read. Eco packed so much in there that I always find new things when I reread it, even after a dozen or so times.

I've found that a lot of Eco's work is like that ---dense and very dry.

It takes a certain amount of dedication to make it through.

Crypt did seem to spice up my communitcations with the wife, and nobody else was able to decypher it!

From looking at his picture, the women he tricks into getting into bed with him wouldn't be bright enough to read road signs, let alone sci-fi.

*way* too amused by:

"Last week after everyone was gone a co-worker and I ended up getting into some heavy petting in my cubicle. I'd like to become fuck-buddies but now she's ignoring me and acting like nothing happened. Is there a polite way to say, "I'd like to sleep with you with no strings attached?"

My strategy is always just to jump people. But I suppose you could interoffice her a document as to your intentions.

**points and laughs**

There's a reason why I date Pagans and SF geeks exclusively, pretty much. And there's also a reason why I can just barely remember what bad sex is like.

I'd snark, but I have no doubt that I'm actually a bigger loser.

Gentlemen seem to be much more creative in bed ...and don't mind tentacles, which seem to squick the majority of males.
