While at Toys "Backward R" Us this weekend, I finally bit the bullet and purchased another copy of my long-lost FInal Fantasy Tactics.

Spent many hours playing it (I'm one mission away from the end of Chapter 1), and it's still as good as I remember.

Aside from the occasionally annoying AI on the guest characters (lost on the Slums of Dorter the first time, not only because I hadn't leveled enough, but because Delita and Algus wasted time running away and using potions after Ramza was dead), it's the most fun strategy game I can recall.

That doesn't, of course, reduce my love of Nectaris at all, but FFT has leveling, job classes, and the ability to go on side quests and hit random encounters to level. Just so damned good (now if only I could bring myself to like any other FF entry in the PS/PS2 era).

Went over to [livejournal.com profile] jet_li_wannabe's last night for gaming and pizza. We warmed up with Falling (which didn't go over that well, although I appreciate the idea of it), followed by Once Upon a Time and Bohnanza. We then moved on to Settlers of Cataan. Woohoo! I won the latter by pulling three points on the final turn (flipped a soldier for the largest army and built a settlement). It was the first time I've ever won without a single city.

There was also much fun hanging out and chatting (and other games being played, since we're talking about a group of over ten people -- I know there was Spades and Cranium, and probably other stuff I missed. Plus pizza and hanging out.

In my ongoing efforts to de-clutter, I brought over all of my remaining Magic cards to give to Mike, which would have been a great idea if he and Tracy weren't also de-cluttering. I walked out of there with all of his Heroclix, as well as three books and King's Gate. I'll call it a wash on the clutter factor.

Spent most of the weekend off the net, not always a bad thing.

Since we celebrated Father's Day when Elayna was still in town, yesterday was mostly uneventful on that front, other than a call from my daughter and the surprise that she'd hidden an extra Father's Day card under her keyboard for me before leaving town. Yeah, my kid rules. :-)

Played lots of Diablo II: Lord of Destruction. I go back to it every year or two. Still so damned good (really -- I'd rather see action RPGs just try to improve on the few flaws in this formula than start from scratch). Got my sword-and-shield Barb to Lower Kurast.

After two weeks of waiting for a library recall notice to go through, I finally got my hands on the two most recent Kinsey Millhone books, and gobbled down Q is for Quarry, which was the best in a while (and, although I picked up a lot of the important early details, the first one that kept me in the dark about the murderer in a long time).

I also burned through about fifteen magazines that had piled up. And ate yummy food.

Oh, and the best news of all: So, after [livejournal.com profile] matociquala made a comment in her LJ involving the word "Denouement," I felt compelled to quote from the "Heroes" episode of The Tick. This led me to check the Tivo listings to see if it was on anywhere, and lo and behold, Toon Disney is running it every night at 11! I can get my spoony goodness again! And so can all of you!

Finally, anyone know of a good Mac client that handles tag support? I love my iJournal, but I also love tags, and hate editing more than I have to.

*ahem*

I have ascended!!!

I'm a lot less pissed at Jick than I was about fifteen minutes ago. Made it (on my umpteenth try) with seven HP left.

Grrrr.

So, a part of Ascension in KOL involved resetting the Tower of the Naughty Sorceress. Which means I need to either spend $16K on an item (not named, for spoiler's sake), or find a new one, which in turn means finding an air freshener, etc.

Really pissed about this -- I wouldn't have bothered going into the Tower before if I'd known that the adventures were pointless.
