I hate insomnia. Hate it with a an anger that's near undefinable. I feel like Mrs. White in Clue: I hated it ... so ... much ... I-It-It--flame-flames ... on the side of my face ... breathing ... breathless--heaving breaths ... heaving-

The difference being, of course, that the object of Mrs. White's hatred was at least a hot woman in a French Maid's outfit. Insomnia isn't nearly as pretty.

On the plus side, I only have one meeting scheduled tomorrow, so if I can keep awake for it, I'll be able to make it through the rest of the day.

From the UPN fall lineup:
''Haunted'' ''Party of Five'' star Matthew Fox returns from TV limbo as a sleuth who returns from limbo after a near-death experience, accompanied by ghosts who help him solve crimes.

It'll be in the post-Buffy slot. Anyone else think "The Frighteners" when they saw this? It doesn't help that, aside from the plot, it starts someone with a similar name to Michael J Fox. Of course, it could as easily end up being a Brimstone rip-off instead. Either way, it won't be any Special Unit 2.

On the potentially positive side, UPN is debuting a new Twilight Zone show, with Forrest Whitaker as the narrator.

The sleep total turned out to be about two hours. I finally hit the sack at 3, but tossed and turned for at least half an hour after that. The alarm shot me out of bed at 5:30. There will be much coffee imbibed today.

The good news: Marvel has freelance writing guidelines (and artist ones too, [livejournal.com profile] mousegrrl) up on the web at http://www.marvel.com/about/submissions_guide/submissions.htm

The bad news: This line appears in them:

"When submitting writing samples, please submit a brief paragraph or two that describes you entire story, we call this a springboard."

"You entire story?" Is it too much to ask that they actually proofread their own guidelines?

So, [livejournal.com profile] shadesong posted a link to undergarments that she needed. So here's my link for the undergarment I need: http://WebUndies.com/ea81a922.htm

I think this underscores the inherent difference between men and women, and the way they view undergarments.

So I started reading Charlaine Harris's Dead Until Dark on the bus today. It had been sitting on my to-read pile for a while, but after seeing enough Anita Blake comparisons, and being too tired to start a Jeff Noon book (my brain can't handle it), I decided to give it a shot.

It's nifty so far, but there's one thing that really irked me. On page one -- page fucking one -- the short female narrator with mystical powers who soon starts dating a vampire announces that she's wearing, yes, black Nikes!

Argh!

Someday, I'm going to write a vampire novel about a short chick who dates vampires, and she's going to wear fucking New Balance!

I didn't realize that Google archived their special logos (note that there are separate links on the page to sections for the various Olympics and other subcategories):

So I was going around adding a few more interests, including Hawkeye and Green Arrow (hey, I find archer heroes interesting). So I took a look at who else had Hawkeye listed. Four users and two communities were interested in the comic hero. One user was a M*A*S*H fan. And one community was M*A*S*H Slash. Is there a tv show that hasn't had slash fiction written about it?

Nintendo just dropped the price of a Gamecube to $150. And they've announced an Aquaman game. I need.

Christ on a bicycle seat, I'm so fucking exhausted. I really don't think I'll be able to stay awake enough to watch the season finale of Angel tonight (insert joke here, [livejournal.com profile] shadesong. I hate being this tired. I'm just toally non-functional.

So part of the reason I couldn't sleep is my dreams. I think. But I don't know. Y'see, I don't remember dreams. I can remember snippets -- I know that in one dream last night, 'song had left me, but for typical dream logic reasons, she and her new boyfriend were living in the same house. And in another dream, I was late for a meeting at work, and stuck wating for the bus. But the thing is, although both fit nightmare archetypes, they're just snippets -- I have no idea of what actually transpired during the dreams; both might just have been settings, and neither might represent what actually happened. The dreams might have spun off from there into totally different "plots," but since I can't remember, I'll never know. And I'm also not sure that there wasn't a chicken/egg effect -- did the fact that I was already stressed about lack of sleep have anything to do with having nightmares. And were they really nightmares -- just because I don't like two snippets doesn't mean that the rest of the dreams weren't about my travelling to the Chocolate Plains and gorging myself.

Anyway, the point is, when I'm tired, I ramble.

So is there a correlation between lack of sleep and depression? Right now, and for pretty much all of the day, I've been in an unbearable funk. And although I'm certainly not in general a chipper person, I'm also not clinically depressive.

The last few times I felt like this, it was because something royally sucky had either happened, or was about to. I really hope this is sleep-related.

You have no idea how much this sucks. He was one of the few remaining heroes I had left.

And continuing the Year of the Cool People Dying, apparently Dave Berg (the guy who did all the Lighter Side Of comics for Mad) died last week, too. Mark Evanier has an article at http://www.povonline.com/News051602.htm#051902b
