One of my old English profs (the same one who loves sci-fi and Buffy) sent me the song listed below. I was trying to wonder why he sent me a party song until about thirty seconds in, when the tune shifted to the chorus, and I realized it was that Six Flags song. You know, the ones with this guy dancing like crazy:

I'm scared. Very scared.

Tired. Overslept. Blah.

For the final time (since the last posts on the topic were on a weekend), this past weekend was Blog-a-Thon. Give major props to the folks on my friendslist who completed it:

[livejournal.com profile] shadesong (aka the future Mrs. Yendi), who wrote short-short stories off prompts the entire time. That's 48 stories. She could crash Warren Ellis's page by herself (although most of these were more than 200 words). All money raised by her was for RAINN (Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network).

[livejournal.com profile] theferrett, who wrote (in a private journal for those who donated), essays about all and sundry, including sex, love, drunk driving, and other stuff. He blogged for The National Hemophilia Association.

[livejournal.com profile] correspondguy blogged to support the other bloggers, donating money for those who agreed to read and support them to the Wisconsin Humane Society. His essays cover the range of topics from alcohol addiction to coffee to love and patriotism.

All three of these people are amazing writers, and you can still head to their journals to support them.

[livejournal.com profile] karlita also blogged all night in sympathy with the others, with added appearances by [livejournal.com profile] museumfreak.

With all those folks staying up all Saturday, no surprise that LJ was pretty dead yesterday. :-)

I know that [livejournal.com profile] yuki_onna will be blogging this weekend for The Global Fund for Women. Anyone else?

I'm still eternally behind on LJ. No chance of really catching up, but I hope to not fall further behind this week, at least.

Spoiler cut below. Hey, [livejournal.com profile] tsarinanic, you might want to read this one!

Random book nattering.

Finished on my trip to DC:

The Long Hot Summoning, Tanya Huff: Like the first two, this one is just a lot of fun. Diana finally supplants her sister as a lead character, the cats are a blast, and we get an anime style King Arthur. In a haunted shopping mall. What else could one want?

A Hat Full of Sky, Terry Pratchett. It's another Tiffany Achining/Wee Free Men book, and it's better than the first. Which says a lot, if you remember how much I liked it. Much more integrated into the Discworld than the first one was, too.

I posted a couple of weeks ago about their upcoming reprint of Bone. They've announced more titles.

If you don't want to read the full article, here's the new stuff:

Queen Bee: A funny, but stinging look at the social hive of middle-school girls, at the center of which are rival sisters with super powers. By Chynna Clugston-Major, creator of Blue Monday and Scooter Girl. (and on LJ as [livejournal.com profile] girlmod)

The Babysitters Club: Adapted from Ann M. Martin's fabulous bestselling series, America's favorite babysitters are back! Adapted by Raina Telgemeier, a fresh, young talent, who is also creating the warm and sparky illustrations.

High Schoool Confidential (Working title only): A first person account of tumultuous high school friendships - and hip, downtown fashion - by first-time author Aimee Friedman with stylish illustrations by Christine Norrie of Action Girl and Hopeless Savages.

Goosebumps: This bestselling series is a natural for the graphic-novel form. The fear, the fright, and the fun are taken to a scary new level - this time with spine-tingling illustrations by various artists.

“and a science fiction graphic novel adaptation by Jon J Muth... which I'll leave a mystery until we're further along.”

The Clugston-Major and Norrie books are definite buys for the adults in this house. And since Elayna just got into The Babysitters Club this year, I know she'll like that line. Goosebumps is probably going to depend on the artist. And anything Muth is almost a certainty for me.
